FAQ
Can I get a Government grant if I rent my property?
If you live in a flat (whether you own it or rent it) or rent any residential property in the UK, you may qualify for the government’s Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant. You need dedicated off-street parking that you have legal rights to use, and you must own or lease an eligible electric vehicle. The grant is available across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Note that you can’t claim it if you’re a lodger living with your landlord. Find out more.
How long does it take for the Government to approve my grant application?
It can take up to 10 working days for the Government to approve your grant application. Once that's done, they'll send us notification that the grant has been accepted and we'll be able to proceed with your installation.
How much money can I get from the EV charger grant for flats and renters?
The grant covers up to 75% of the cost of buying and installing a home EV charger socket, with a maximum of £500. This higher amount applies from 1 April 2026. The grant is deducted directly from your final installation cost.
Do I need landlord permission for the EV chargepoint grant?
Yes, permission is required. Flat owners need approval from the freeholder or managing agent, while renters need written consent from their landlord. The permission must clearly name you and the property address. We can help with a ready-to-use permission request letter you can download here.
How does the £500 EV charger grant work with Cord EV installation?
It’s simple. Get an instant quote from us (it already shows the grant deduction). Apply on the official government portal using our OZEV installer number (12082). Once approved, we’ll send you a unique transaction code allowing you to deduct the £500. We then handle the full professional installation — including up to 15m cable run — usually within two weeks.
Can I combine any special offers or discounts with the grant?
Yes — if you wish to use any special offers or additional discounts these can be applied once you have received your unique transaction link.
What if I only have on-street parking?
Unfortunately, the £500 Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant for renters and flat owners is only available for off-street parking. If you only have on-street parking, you may still be able to get support through the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS). Learn more about the On-Street EV Charger Grant here: https://www.cord-ev.com/on-street-parking-ev-charger-grant
What if I’m a business?
This particular £500 grant is designed for residential properties only (homes, flats, and rented homes). Businesses cannot apply for this grant. However, Cord EV offers excellent options for businesses, including the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) grant and fully commercial EV charger installations. See our business page and we’ll help you find the best business solution and any available grants.
Is the installation available nationally?
Installation is available everywhere in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
How quickly will it be installed?
We complete most installations within 2 weeks of receiving the order, however this is subject to your home survey and DNO (distribution network operator) approvals. Once you place your order you'll receive a text message with a link to a short survey to provide information about your property that we require in order to progress your installation. We advise completing this as soon as possible so we can proceed.

 * We complete most installations within 2 weeks, however this is dependent on your home survey and installer availability in your area. During public holidays such as Easter & Christmas installations may take longer. In some instances prior approval or additional electrical work is required by your DNO (distribution network operator) which is out of our control.
