Why is a portable charger also known as a "granny" charger?

A portable EV charger is often called a "granny" charger because of the slow speeds at which they charge. A "granny" charger will usually charge up to a maximum rate of 2.3kW / 10A. 10A is the maximum charging rate permissable by UK electrical regulations from a standard domestic socket.
